Youth Sailing Project (YSP) is a 501c3 non-profit whose mission is to promote youth leadership and team-building through open-water sailing. Our programs and course are geared for high school students. The programs YSP offers give students the opportunity to learn and practice leadership and team-building while also finding a passion for sailing in a hands-on real-time environment.
We believe one of the best ways to learn leadership and teamwork is through sailing. Our programs have students live aboard a sailing yacht for one to two weeks crossing miles of open water--anchoring and docking at various locations. Students prepare meals, set and maintain bearings, operate the various systems aboard, and work to maintain the safety of the yacht under the supervision of our captain and chaperones.

Our programs consist of completing both online curriculum as well as practical hands-on experience sailing.
- Online components are offered through NauticEd, a USCG recognized national sailing education company providing multimedia interactive course materials. The certificate and rank achieved by students are nationally recognized
- Hands-on experience sailing in the British Virgin Islands is done via Sailing Virgins: a professional sailing school located on the island of Tortola with extensive experience instructing students of all skill sets (from novice to advanced) in the arts of sailing.
What makes YSP different from other sailing courses
Unlike other sailing programs, YSP looks to also develop and provide leadership opportunities. Students learn how to work within a close-knit team being both a leader and member. Part of our course work is get students out of their comfort zone and have them take on roles they will not find anywhere else except aboard a large sailing yacht. Away from the commotions of daily life, our programs provide students the time to learn independence and experience real problem solving. Along with NauticEd course work and Sailing Virgins, YSP offers amazing and fun life experiences students will carry with them the rest of their lives.
Non-Profit
We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. All our proceeds go to the operation and maintenance of the program as well as all fees associated with boat charter, airfare and accommodations for our students.
